Q: How long do Spectra® duckbill valves last?
A: These valves are expected to last anywhere from 3 to 6 months of regular use and please ensure that there is no gap between the two flaps.. The Spectra duckbill valves are compatible with Spectra® S1, S2, SG, & 9 Plus Breast Pumps OR Spectra® CaraCups. Spectra recommends regular replacement of your pump parts to ensure optimal use.
Q: How do you clean Spectra® Duckbill Valves?
A: First, start by running them through boiling water for less than 2 minutes but please do not exceed this as silicone breast pump accessories in general should not be exposed to high heat over a long period of time.
Place the cleaned and sterilized breast pump valve parts to dry on a clean paper towel and allow for them to air dry fully. Once the parts are dry, assemble the pump before you store it or use it.
Q: Why are duckbill valves better?
A: Due to fewer parts, they are easier to wash, sterilize and assemble. Plus because of the one piece design, they are more durable which helps create a stronger suction when breast pumping and resulting in a better output of breast milk.
Q: Can I use my breast pump twice without having to wash or sterilize it?A: No, we do not recommend this. The CDC and most breast pump manufacturers recommend cleaning pump parts thoroughly after every breast pumping session to help protect babies from bacteria and germs that may form or accumulate on the breast pump parts.
